This is Kenneth.
So today I will be talking about GFRIEND and Red Velvet’s special stage at last year’s KBS Gay Daechukje, yes, its a little bit late, but still.
Okay, before anything else, I would like to say that I am a fan of both groups and I wouldn’t be bias in raising my thoughts. Before I begin, I would like to introduce you guys these girl groups first. So, Red Velvet is under SM Entertainment, debuted with “Happiness” on August 2014. On March 2015, Red Velvet introduced its newest member, Yeri. Red Velvet then made a comeback with “Ice Cream Cake”. Meanwhile, GFRIEND is under Source Music and debuted with their hit song “Glass Bead” on January 2015. So basically, Red Velvet is GFRIEND’s senior, except for Yeri whom technically is a junior by two months.
Here’s the collaboration stage:
First category, stage appearance. Red Velvet takes the credit for this category. Red Velvet looks visually perfect, their visuals are no joke. Its not quite surprising that SM Entertainment sent Seulgi and Irene for this special stage, considering the fact that they’re the top 2 visuals in their group, what RV girls lacked was definitely the height factor, they kinda looked shorter next to GFRIEND which was very obvious. Aside from GFRIEND’s average height, just like what Korean netizens are saying, GFRIEND girls lack the top idol visual vibe, but, they are pretty in their own ways, right?
Second category, their live vocals, GFRIEND is a clear standout, GFRIEND takes the full credit. RV girls are all talented, Wendy for example, not because she’s my bias in RV, Wendy is extremely a good singer. Seulgi is one of RV’s vocal line as well, but Wendy overshadows her big time. In GFRIEND’s case, I know a lot of Korean netizens are saying that the only singers in GFRIEND are Yuju and Eunha, but I can definitely say that Yerin’s vocal isn’t that bad, she really sounds stable, not so powerful yes, but pretty stable. I just have to say, Yuju overshadowed the three girls in this special stage. Irene’s voice sounds shaky, she even sang in GFRIEND’s solo part, shows that she’s not being attentive. Well, I’m not judging these girls, probably because they’re still awkward with each other? maybe? who knows.
Third and last category, confidence and gracefulness. I’m gonna say both groups take equal credits for this category. Even though they seemed pretty awkward performing with each other, I’m pretty sure these girls gave their all to represent their respective groups the best way that they can. I know I said Irene was shaky earlier, but that was her voice. Yuju and Seulgi were full of confidence, Yerin seemed shy and demure and Irene seemed very overwhelmed. I loved the part where Seulgi and Yuju made an interaction with their fingers, they’re cute.
Well, I am actually happy that GFRIEND is now getting interactions with other idol groups, they really need some of these from time to time. In regards to Red Velvet, getting interactions with other groups isn’t really much of a problem because they’re from SM Entertainment and basically, it houses only the top artists of today. Both RV and GFRIEND is all over the place nowadays, I wish them all the best this 2016! RV fighting! GFRIEND fighting!
Support both groups by watching and listening to their songs! GFRIEND recently made a comeback too!
